We are growing and need a little more desk space to accommodate NCC staff and interns! This summer, in addition to NCC's three staff we'll have an MPH intern joining us to work on Sun Smart Schools and other skin cancer prevention projects. As such, we'd like to add a standing desk to our conference room that can double as a media station for on-site meetings. If you have something that would work, or would like to purchase one for NCC, we would love the donation!

2015 was a wonderful year for the Nevada Cancer Coalition!
It's #GivingTuesday! We'd like to think that our friends and members are in a giving mood all year round, but sometimes it helps to share a little reminder. Giving Tuesday is just that -- an opportunity for non-profit organizations like Nevada Cancer Coalition to remind our friends that we rely on the support of grants and donations to do the work we have set out to do.
Know someone that's made great contributions to cancer control in Nevada this year? Now's the time to nominate them for the Nevada Cancer Coalition's annual awards, recognizing outstanding efforts in cancer control at the annual Nevada Cancer Control Summit. The awards honor those who have made an impact in cancer research, advocacy, prevention, treatment, and survivorship.
Three new members joined the Nevada Cancer Coalition board of directors effective Jan. 1, 2015, rounding out the list of members and officers to 13. The new members include: Dr. Anu Thummala, Lisa Dettling, and Stacey Escalante.
We're excited to announce a new position at the Nevada Cancer Coalition: Project Coordinator. There are so many opportunities to help increase cancer screening throughout Nevada and contribute to cancer prevention efforts and collaboration between our many partners that we need to bring our head count to three. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cancer prevention and control; a spirit for coordinating diverse teams of people; and the drive to make positive changes in our state. Current projects include breast cancer, teen tobacco prevention and smoke-free meetings.
Each year at the annual Nevada Cancer Control Summit we are lucky to be able to honor the organizations and individuals in Nevada who have exemplified the essence of passion and leadership in cancer control in their respective community, region, or statewide. The Denise Dunning Awards are given in memory of Denise Faye Dunning, whose passion and leadership was crucial to advancing cancer prevention, control, and treatment in Nevada. As the State Comprehensive Cancer Control Coordinator, Ms. Dunning was dedicated to the Coalition and its work until cancer took her life in 2011.
