Insurance claim denied? Nevada’s consumer health advocates can help
10 October, 2026
An unexpected medical bill or insurance denial can leave you with a lot of questions. Was something billed incorrectly? Does your plan cover the service? Can you appeal — and where do you even start?
In our latest episode of the Cancer Talks podcast, NCC spoke with three representatives from Nevada’s Office for Consumer Health Assistance, known as OCHA, about how they help Nevadans navigate those questions. Their message: You don’t have to figure it out alone.
Sheila Kildea, governor’s consumer health advocate; Khadyja Carter, operations chief; and Erica Young, ombudsman and arbitrator, explain how the state-funded office helps consumers understand insurance coverage, address billing disputes and appeal denials. There is no cost to consumers for the assistance.
