Success Story: Dermatology Students Embrace Sun Smart Initiatives to Expand Program Reach
04 April, 2023
NCC has been working with medical students from University of Nevada's Las Vegas and Reno campuses for a number of years, especially when it comes to skin cancer. Medical students who are interested in dermatology are members of a student interest group that have partnered with NCC to work on the Sun Smart Nevada program.
As part of this effort, the students have learned how to conduct presentations for younger students in grades K-12 in schools across Nevada. They bring Sun Smart Schools toolkits into these classrooms to teach youth about the importance of sun safety and skin cancer prevention.
Dermatology students also host outreach events in the community, learning how to provide skin checks for adults, often reaching out to underserved communities.
