Volunteer Spotlight: Jillian
11 November, 2024
In the world of nonprofits, achieving ambitious goals with limited resources is often the norm. That's the case for Nevada Cancer Coalition and why we rely on the contributions of volunteers to help us fill in the gaps. Volunteers not only add to the hands-on help needed but also embody the organization’s spirit, spreading awareness and deepening connections within the community. This month we're spotlighting one of our volunteer superstars.
Jillian began volunteering with NCC in March 2024 and her first event was the Blue Ribbon Rally in Las Vegas, held to raise awareness about colon cancer. Jillian said NCC’s mission deeply resonates with her and she values the focus on awareness, education, and assistance programs.
“I lost my best friend in 2020 to metastatic breast cancer, so supporting cancer awareness and prevention efforts is close to my heart,” she said. “What I enjoy most about volunteering is building connections within the community—often sparked by a simple question about cancer screenings, which can evolve into meaningful conversations. I’m especially proud of the resources NCC offers and enjoy sharing them with others.”
Jillian said each of the four events she’s volunteered at has been fulfilling, but the Pink & Pearl breast and lung cancer awareness and screening event Nov. 5 at Sunrise Hospital stands out as her favorite.
“It was an honor to support awareness for both lung and breast cancer, particularly since I could bring insights from my 15 years as a respiratory therapist,” she said.
Thank you Jillian for being a part of NCC!
