Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign to glow pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
10 October, 2026
Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick and representatives from the Nevada Cancer Coalition will host a ceremony Thursday, Oct. 8, at 9 a.m. at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The iconic landmark will be illuminated in pink to raise awareness about breast cancer screening and prevention.
"October gives us the perfect opportunity to remind women that early detection saves lives," said Commissioner Kirkpatrick. "Regular mammograms are one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against breast cancer. I encourage all eligible women to schedule their screenings today."
"Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives us an opportunity to come together as a community and recognize the strength and resilience of survivors while remembering those we have lost," said Cari Herington, CEO of Nevada Cancer Coalition. "We also want people to leave with an important reminder: Know your body, understand your risk and talk with your health care provider about when breast cancer screening is right for you."
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Nevada outside of skin cancers, with a five-year relative survival rate of 99% when detected early, and nearly 30% of Nevada women age 40 and older are behind on regular screenings, according to the Nevada Cancer Coalition.
