New BRFSS data shows Nevada improving in cancer screening

01 January, 2026

New data was recently published in the CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, a phone survey of Americans covering a variety of health topics. The new data, from the 2024 survey year, shows Nevada has rebounded slightly in cancer screenings from a dip following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The percentage of Nevadans up-to-date with breast, colorectal and lung cancer screening increased from the 2022 to 2024 survey year. Cervical cancer screening data hasn't been published in the BRFSS trends data since 2020 following changes in the way the question has been asked, but screening remains relatively high compared to other cancer types.

Despite the increases, Nevada remains below the national average for all four cancer screenings.

Complete data and state-by-state comparison is available at https://www.cdc.gov/brfss/brfssprevalence/index.html.
