It's National Public Health Week!

This week, April 7 – 11, 2014, is National Public Health Week. It’s an opportunity to recognize the contributions of the many organizations that work towards healthy communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research for disease and injury prevention. Their ultimate goal: the improved health and well-being of people in local communities and around the globe. That’s no small feat!


Screening Success: Community Health Alliance

With Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month just days away (March 1 - 31) NCC, in collaboration with Nevada Colon Cancer Partnership, has been working on a statewide campaign to increase colon cancer screening.  The project is modeled on a 2013 project NCC piloted with Community Health Alliance in their clinics. In just a few months they saw a 300% increase in colon cancer screening among their patients. Read more about their success in this pilot project whitepaper.

How Does Nevada Measure Up? ACS-CAN Releases Annual Policy Report

According to a new report, Nevada’s statewide cancer policies are falling behind in many areas. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s annual “How Do You Measure Up?” report was released yesterday and compares Nevada to other states on a variety of cancer policy issues. Using a variety of metrics and rated on a “green,” “yellow,” or “red” scale, the report ranks the Silver State at yellow or red in many areas, indicating Nevada has a way to go in defeating cancer.
