Sunrise Hospital Earns National Rectal Cancer Accreditation, Expanding Access to High-Quality Cancer Care in Southern Nevada

05 May, 2026

Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center has received accreditation from the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer, becoming the only NAPRC-accredited hospital in Southern Nevada.

This accreditation is meaningful for cancer control in Nevada because rectal cancer care is complex and outcomes can vary significantly depending on access to specialized, coordinated treatment. NAPRC accreditation recognizes programs that meet national standards for multidisciplinary care, treatment planning, quality improvement and evidence-based protocols.

For patients, that means care teams work together across specialties such as surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology and pathology to create individualized treatment plans. The goal is to improve outcomes that matter deeply to patients and families, including survival, recurrence, function and quality of life.

The announcement also aligns with the 2026–2030 Nevada Cancer Plan’s focus on improving outcomes across the cancer continuum, including early detection, access to quality treatment and reducing the burden of cancer statewide.

Colorectal cancer remains a major public health priority in Nevada. Nevada Cancer Coalition data show colorectal cancer is the third most commonly-diagnosed cancer among men and women in Nevada and is the second-leading cancer killer in Nevada by total numbers, behind lung cancer. Additionally, disparities exist, with people who are Black more likely to be diagnosed with this cancer and more likely to die from the disease.

Sunrise Hospital’s accreditation adds an important resource for Southern Nevadans diagnosed with rectal cancer and reinforces the value of coordinated, evidence-based cancer care close to home.

The only other NAPRC accredited hospital in Nevada is Renown Health in Reno.
