The Sun Smart Schools team headed to Gardnerville's Scarselli Elementary in April to share the 5 S's of sun safety and tips for students on how to be Sun Smart. Students from grades K - 5 attended the assembly and learned about how the sun's UV rays can cause sunburn, and how to prevent sunburn while still enjoying the sun. The interactive assembly invited students to talk about their favorite summer activities and how they would protect their skin, including putting on sunscreen and finding shade under a tree or umbrella.

We are excited to invite your organization to partner with us on the first Skin Cancer Awareness Day at the Farm event to take place on May 21, 2016 in Minden, Nevada. This fun-filled day of live music, farmer’s market, food and booths will promote skin cancer awareness and prevention. All proceeds will benefit Sun Smart Schools, a program providing sun safe education and sunscreen to our local schools.

We are growing and need a little more desk space to accommodate NCC staff and interns! This summer, in addition to NCC's three staff we'll have an MPH intern joining us to work on Sun Smart Schools and other skin cancer prevention projects. As such, we'd like to add a standing desk to our conference room that can double as a media station for on-site meetings. If you have something that would work, or would like to purchase one for NCC, we would love the donation!

Nevada Oncology Society hosts it's Spring Conference, "New Directions in Cancer Management," on May 5 at M Resort in Henderson, Nevada. The evening's agenda includes dinner, awards, and update on Medicare, and a presentation on progress in lung cancer treatment.

We are immediately seeking a dynamic, personable Community Programs Manager to join our small, but mighty team. The ideal candidate will have a preoccupation for cancer prevention; a penchant for outdoor staff meetings; and a passion for bringing people together to promote health.

Our friends Bill & Rocky at Bella Vista Farm LLC in Minden, Nevada invite you to join us for the first annual Skin Cancer Awareness Day at the Farm, Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This fun-filled event includes live music from local favorites All Hat No Cattle from 11 a.m. to noon, along with a farmer's market and general store, a raffle, and food and drinks. 

Be sure to visit the Sun Smart demonstrations and booths which include free sunscreen, a skin analyzer machine, and the farm's UV radiation indicator.
