Breast Cancer Collaborative

The Breast Cancer Collaborative consists of health care providers, radiologists, breast surgeons, and advocates who have been working together to implement consistent recommendations and strategies in an effort to improve Nevada's breast cancer screening rates, decrease late-stage breast cancer diagnosis, and improve time from diagnosis to treatment. This event will discuss progress on previously determined barriers to breast cancer screening and brainstorming new areas for future work.

Think Pink for Mammograms This October

It’s that time of year again. Yes, it’s time for everything pumpkin spice. It’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, recognized every October to remind the community of the importance of screening for breast cancer.

Did you know that National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been around since 1985? The American Cancer Society helped to start the campaign to promote breast cancer screening with mammography. A mammogram is an X-ray image of the breast. It can help to find cancers earlier when they are easier to treat.

There’s a lot to be said for following your gut instinct, especially when it comes to your health. 

But when you’re a director of a neonatal intensive care unit who’s also in graduate school and also a wife and expectant mother, the path of least resistance when your healthcare provider tells you that a mole on your neck appears benign, that some moles change during pregnancy, that the removal of a benign mole will leave an unsightly scar, is to let it go.
