Podcast: Dental Health for Cancer Patients

Our friend Dr. Jessica Pharar of The Pharar Foundation joined the Hello Cancer podcast to talk about the importance of dental health for people who've been diagnosed with cancer. She said her experience as a cancer caregiver helped her to develop greater empathy and connection with patients diagnosed with cancer. Her foundation provides comprehensive dental care to ensure the patient's mouth is healthy prior to starting cancer care.

2024 Genetics in Health Care Series

Data suggests that many medical professionals have not been formally trained to discuss genetics and genetic screening/testing with their patients and may not be aware of the value of screening for CDC Tier 1 conditions. This series will allow providers to familiarize themselves with language and knowledge of screening recommendations, and clinical indications for genetic counseling, testing, and resources. Providers will engage in discussions on how to incorporate genomic medicine into daily practice and develop personalized care plans.

Funding Community Health Workers and Patient Navigators in Cancer Care: Understanding New Medicare Billing Codes

This webinar will help explain the CY2024 CMS physician fee schedule (aka “CMS rule”) as it pertains to Principal Illness Navigation, Community Health Integration, and Social Determinants of Health Risk Assessment codes. We will discuss what we know, what we don’t know, and how to comment on real-world implementation of these new codes. We will also discuss training and resources to position cancer patient navigators for success and provide examples from two states and their CHW trainings and certification processes.

Screenable cancers on the rise, colorectal cancer leads cancer deaths in younger Americans

In January, the American Cancer Society released its annual Cancer Facts & Figures, a report that compiles the most recent cancer incidence and mortality data to show how cancer is impacting the nation and each state.
