NCC works with UNR Public Health to learn more about Black women and breast cancer screening

Over the past year NCC has been working with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health to learn more about perceptions, behaviors, and knowledge about breast cancer screening among Nevadans, with a special focus on Black Nevadans. The results of the research, which combined a statewide online survey and a series of focus groups with Black women across the state, is available now.

Sarah Grocki, MBA

Sarah joined the NCC team in August 2023. She was born and raised in North Texas, but she moved to Reno to take advantage of the area's mountains and outdoor activities. Sarah received her MBA from University of Texas at Arlington. She is excited to bring her years of experience in outreach and training to her new role as Community Engagement Manager. In her free time, Sarah is an outdoor enthusiast enjoying a variety of hobbies including rock climbing, hiking, paddle boarding, and skiing.

September Cancer Awareness Quick Facts

September is a busy cancer awareness month recognizing prostate, uterine, ovarian, leukemia, lymphoma, thyroid and childhood cancers. While many of these cancers do not have early detection tests or prevention messages, NCC is sharing quick facts on several for providers and public health partners to use and share.

Registered Dietitians Provide Science-Backed Nutrition for Survivors

A quick internet search on "cancer diet" and "cancer nutrition" can yield hundreds of results -- some of them high quality and with sound, evidence-based information and others that are, let's just say, a little gimmicky.

It can be hard to decipher what's helpful and what's not, especially during an emotionally charged, stressful time such as following a cancer diagnosis. We recommend following a few key guidelines to find high-quality nutrition information.
