Resource Highlight: Cancer and Careers

Cancer, in the past, was often thought of as a disease of aging. For many people that’s still true, and their cancer diagnosis may come later in life. But for more and more people, a cancer diagnosis may come in their 20s, 30’s or 40’s, just as they are launching their careers or hitting their prime working years.

The founders of Cancer and Careers learned this when they realized some of their colleagues were working through a cancer diagnosis and treatment, often without saying anything to anyone at work.

Our friends at Leukemia and Lymphoma Society put together a fantastic video series on "Making Good Food Choices" as part of their Let's Talk Nutrition @ the Grocery Store. The series, hosted by registered dietitians from LLS, features short videos on food safety, food labels, and how to find healthy options in the store.

Mailed Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) Online Courses

In 2019, CDC and the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors brought together leading health care and public health experts to discuss how mailed fecal immunochemical test (FIT) programs could improve colorectal cancer screening rates nationwide. The meeting paved the way for tools to help partners put successful mailed FIT programs into action to save more lives. The tools are available through the CDC at the link below.

Saving lives through new developments in lung cancer screenings: A webinar for primary care teams

The webinar focuses on providing clinicians and care teams with education on lung cancer symptoms so that they engage patients in preventive routine screening conversations utilizing targeted, culturally responsive evidence-based interventions. A secondary goal is to increase knowledge about screening protocols and survivorships issues and to increase awareness about the burden of lung cancer incidence and mortality.
