Screening, prevention have kept cervical cancer at bay for countless women

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month

Cervical cancer, once a leading cause of cancer death among women, has become largely preventable through effective screening methods and HPV vaccination. Despite this, an estimated 60 Nevadans will die of cervical cancer this year – more than one-third of those who will be diagnosed within the state.

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to remind Nevadans that a few steps can make a big difference in the lives of many.

WHO launches new campaign to amplify the lived experience of people affected by cancer

Earlier this year the World Health Organization launched the first global survey to better understand and address the needs of all those affected by cancer. The survey is part of a broader campaign, designed with and intended to amplify the voices of those affected by cancer – survivors, caregivers and the bereaved – as part of WHO’s Framework for Meaningful Engagement of People Living with Noncommunicable diseases (PLWNCDs).

ThriveNV Patient Navigation Expands with Southern Nevada Presence

Did you know that ThriveNV has three navigators? In late 2021 and early 2022, NCC added two new navigators to the team, both bilingual and based in Las Vegas. The addition of the new team members -- Valerie and Jorge -- was exciting because it added to our ability to serve Nevadans.

Both navigators trained through the GW Cancer Institute's Oncology Patient Navigator Training to serve clients across the state. They also participate in NCC's other prevention, early detection and survivorship work.
