Memory: Lawrence Power

I first heard my grandpa called Larry at his funeral. It made sense; his name was Lawrence. I was in my first year of college, and that was the first time I really recognized my grandpa as more than husband, dad, grandpa. He was a friend to so many people, and the stories and memories that his friends shared made me miss him so much more.

Report: First year of Cancer Plan efforts show moderate progress

Exciting progress has been made over the first year of the five-year lifespan of our 2021-2025 Nevada Cancer Plan. This week, our partners at the State of Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health completed the Year 1 Evaluation Report for the cancer plan, looking at progress made both on quantitative measures--the objective indicators--and quantitative measures--the strategies.

Winter sun safety: Being 'Sun Smart' isn’t just for summertime

It’s often simple to be Sun Smart in the summertime. We may feel the heat of the sun on our skin reminding us to take cover or reapply sunscreen. We see sunscreen displays front and center at the store reminding us to stock up. And sometimes we see the painful result of not applying sunscreen—a sunburn.

Peer Mentoring Provides 'Somebody Who's Been There'

Several years ago, before ThriveNV was created to support people in Nevada diagnosed with cancer, our team talked to people from throughout the state who had cancer to find out what resources and supports would improve their quality of life. Many said peer support was very much in need, especially for those living in rural Nevada who may have less access to community support.
